Henk van Meel was born in 1937 in Rotterdam. At the age of 19 he
entered the Academy of Arts in Rotterdam (the current Willem de
Kooning Academy). He specialized in fine arts and has continued
to paint and draw ever since.
The themes of Henk van Meel’s expressive paintings and drawings
can be traced back to his upbringing in post-war Rotterdam, his
extensive travels to Eastern Europe, Spain and Greece, as
well as in his fascination with sports and jazz. You will often
find his paintings charged with strong colours and movement.
Boxers, football players, jazz musicians and bull fighter’s will
all perform before your eyes when you look at Henk van Meel’s
artwork.
